HISTORY OF DAY OF THE DEAD

Rooted in ancient indigenous Mexican and Aztec traditions, Day of the Dead evolved when Spanish colonizers integrated these customs with the Catholic observances of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day on November 1st and 2nd. Today, it offers Catholics a meaningful way to honor deceased loved ones through prayer, remembrance, and the creation of ofrendas adorned with photos, food, and personal keepsakes. Beyond serving as a tribute, these altars symbolize the ongoing bond between the living and the dead, reaffirming Catholic beliefs in eternal life and the communion of saints.
